Jet Runners earn golds at TAAF regionals, qualify to State Games

TYLER — More than a dozen Henderson area athletes have qualified to the State Games of Texas after competing at the Texas Amateur Athletic Foundation (TAAF) Region 6 meet on Saturday at Tyler Legacy High School.

Representing the Jet Runners track and field club, nine girls and five boys earned top three finishes across 18 different events to earn their trip to the 2025 State Games set for July 31 to Aug. 3 at Texas A&M’s E.B. Cushing Stadium.

Earning first place in their events in the girls divisions was the 4x100m 10U girls relay team of Kai’Lyric Mills, Leia Warren, Chloe Lilly and Mia Mills, Kamryn King in the 10U shot put, Kase Mills in the 6U 50m and 100m dashes and Warren in the 10U 400m dash.

Joseph Morales earned first in the 16U boys 1600m and 3200m runs, Don’Arian Henson was first in the 14U boys 110m hurdles and Aiden Sanchez took first in the 14U boys 1600m run.

Second-place qualifiers among the girls was Aubree Bromley in the 8U 50m dash, Evelyn Morales in the 10U 1600m, G’Analeigh Green in the 12U 100m dash, Kai’Lyric Mills in the 10U 400m and Warren in the 10U 800m run. Lilly finished third in the 10U 100m dash.

Henson took second in the 14U boys 400m dash and Sanchez was second in the 14U boys 800m run. Anthony Guerrero placed third in the 14U 800m run and Lindsay Pryor in both the 16U boys 400m and 800m runs.

Kai’Lyric Mills, Joseph Morales, Evelyn Morales, Green, Warren, Henson and Sanchez also qualified to last year’s State Games.

The Region 6 meet fielded athletes from track and field clubs around East Texas and further out including Whitehouse/Tyler Metro Track, Super Sport Athletes (Kilgore), Crockett Elite, DETX Track Club (Angelina County), Dynasty Track (Lufkin), 5 STAAR (Center), Running Mavs (Marshall), Elite Raiders (Longview), Houston County Youth Track and All Day Athlete Association (Sunnyvale).

The Jet Runners club was founded in 2003 by LaKesha Hall and serves youth in Henderson and throughout East Texas.

Before the State Games, the Jet Runners will host a special Friday Night Relays meet on July 18 at Henderson Lions Stadium. The meet begins at 7 p.m. and will feature 8U to 18U divisions as well as an adult division for ages 19 and older.
