Precinct 4’s Judge Childress seeks 2026 re-election

Judge Darlene Childress, longtime public servant and current Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace has officially announced her candidacy for re-election in the 2026 election.
With nearly three decades in the justice system, Judge Childress brings a deep commitment to fairness, education, and service. She began her career as a court clerk, service the community faithfully for 10 years before being elected as Justice of the Peace, a position she has held for 19 years.
“I am honored to announce my candidacy for re-election as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 4,” Judge Childress said. “Serving the people of Rusk County has been the privilege of a lifetime, and I remain deeply committed to providing fair, impartially, and respectful service to every person who comes before the court.”

Throughout her career, Judge Childress has completed more than 160 hours of education as a court clerk and over 400 hours of continuing judicial education, with training in civil, criminal, and eviction law, among other areas. She has also stepped in as a visiting judge in Rusk County and nearby counties, when needed.
Beyond the courtroom, she has worked with four local school districts to reduce student dropouts and improve attendance — efforts she describes as “one of the most meaningful aspects of my public service.”
Judge Childress is a 25-year-member and current board member of the East Texas Justice of the Peace and Constables Association, where she supports statewide efforts to uphold high judicial standards.
She and her husband are also dedicated supporters of youth programs, including the FFA and 4-H Club through Rusk County Project Show. Earlier in her career, she served with the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department and completed fire training at Texas A&M. She is a longtime member of Bar None Cowboy Church, where her values of service integrity and faith continue to guide her work and personal life.
“I have always strived to treat every individual with the respect they deserve, regardless of their background or circumstances,” she said. “If re-elected, I will continue to uphold the law with impartiality, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice.”
