ROUND ROCK — Defending state champion Collinsville scored early and late and held off several Overton threats to earn a 12-0 win in the Class 2A Division II State Championship Game on Thursday at Dell Diamond.
Collinsville, making its third straight trip to the big dance, ends the season with a 32-4 record and the Pirates now have three state titles after winning it all in 1999 and again last season.
Overton, making its first trip to the state title game, ends the season with a 31-9 record.

“The expectation is set,” Overton head coach Chris Cook said. “They know the standard and what we need to do to get back. Hopefully they took something away from me, whether it was to be a leader, how to respond when things don’t go our way. …just little things like that. Hopefully they can find ways through tough times and just learn from it and build from it.”
The Mustangs finished with four hits in the game, including a pair of doubles by No. 9 hitter Jayden Edwards. Brody Brown and Landon Hill chipped in with singles for Overton.
Rylan Holleman (10-1) shouldered the loss for Overton. He worked three innings, giving up one earned run on four hits while issuing two walks. Bryce Still pitched an inning, giving up two earned runs on two hits and walking a couple. Hill pitched three frames, striking out two, walking three and surrendering six earned runs on three hits.
Garrett Trevino (12-1) pitched the first four frames for the Pirates and got the win. He struck out two, walked three and allowed three hits. Caysen Schafer walked a couple and gave up one hit in three innings of relief.
Collinsville was led at the plate by Jaxon Jenkins, who finished with three singles and two RBI. Paxton Davidson had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Cash Morgan singled and chased home two runs. Noe Cantu added two RBI, and Peyton Davidson and Brandon Cantu chipped in with an RBI apiece.
“Other than the two innings that got away from us, I thought we played pretty dang good,” Cook said. “Obviously, we got shut out. We just didn’t execute the little things. But Landon Hill came in and just pitched a heck of an outing and kept us in. Things got out of hand in the last inning, but either way I’m super proud of these guys for getting us here. No matter what, I thank the Lord for allowing us to be here in this position.”

Senior Mason Rowe echoed the coach’s thoughts.
“Praise the Lord. I’m so glad we got here,” Rowe said. “Unfortunately, we lost, but that’s OK. I know God had a plan for each and every one of us. Whatever it is, I’m ready for it. We bonded so much. We’re together in every single aspect. We’re always backing each other up no matter what. That bond holds something special, even outside of baseball.”
Collinsville used three hits and three errors to build a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Paxton Davidson reached on an error and Jenkins bunted for a single to get things started. Morgan then singled to bring in two runs. Two more runs scored, but Holleman got a fly out with the bases loaded to stop the bleeding.
Collinsville didn’t threaten again until the seventh, but the Mustangs had several chances.
In the bottom of the first, Row reached on an error and Bryson Bobbitt and Brody Brown were plunked by pitches to put Mustangs at every base.
After Trevino got the first out on a strikeout, Braxton Harper hit into a twin killing to end the inning.
In the bottom of the second, Hill singled and moved to second on a sacrifice by Still. After a walk to Joey Zalman put two men on, an Edwards bunt turned into a double play to end the threat.
Brown doubled and Rylan Holleman was intentionally walked with two outs in the third, but Trevino was able to work out of that jam with a fly ball on the infield.
In the fourth, Zalman walked with one out and Edwards doubled to put men on second and third, but a groundout to the shortstop ended the inning.
The Mustangs went down in order in the fifth and Still walked with two outs but was stranded in the sixth and then Collinsville pieced together an 8-run seventh — using five hits and an error to stretch the lead to 12-0.
Edwards led off the Overton seventh with his second double of the day, and Brown drew a two-out walk, but a fly ball to center field ended the contest.
